Fire Engine House

Fire Engine House old-new
Fire Engine House

Today the buildings of the fire department are located on Stammbacher Straße across from the last municipal brewery. Of course the Krichplatz (church square) is also part of the history of the Münchberg fire department. Here at one time was the fire engine house or arsenal as it was designated in 1864 (photo above right).

On the site of the current Kirchplatz 19 a municipal brewery is mentioned for the first time in 1609, although it had probably existed before then. After the city fire a new brewery was opened at Stammbacher Straße 1 in 1850. In place of the burned down old municipal brewery on the Kirchplatz they planned a fire engine house (photo below). It was finally erected between 1850 and 1858, slightly differing from the plans described below. The gates on the western side still adumbrate former use for fire engines and equipment.

The building was rebuilt several times between 1867 and 1919; in 1924 the installation of an attic was approved by the city council (2nd photo below). At this time Police Sergeant Johann Richter lived in the fire station.

At the beginning of the 21st century a medical practice was housed on the first floor. Now there is a call center there.
