Protestant Parsonage / Deanery

Protestant parsonage / Deanery old-new
Protestant parsonage / Deanery - Protestant parsonage - 1654 – 1766 erected in several sections on the secure city border.	1919/1920 raised. Domicile of the Dean’s office.

Building Number 3 in the printed brochure
Historic Buildings of Münchberg”.

The sign is on the left, next to the entry door of the City Church side.

The parsonage on the church square was already erected 1570 over a medieval core. After the destruction of the Thirty Years’ War it was first temporarily repaired in 1654, and likewise only temporarily repaired after the fire of 1701; in 1718 it was completely renovated. From 1756 to 1766 the east wing was enlarged to the north and east, and the south wing was set in place. In 1919/20 it received a second upper storey.

On the eastern façade there are five arches on the ground floor, with twelve windows respectively. Since the building is located at a lower level than the city church it is possible to have direct access to the upper floor from the church. This entry was designed as a front portal with flat gables and a basket arched window. The door stone is a round house stone, and in the crown stone the initials FC (Friedrich Christian, Margrave of Brandenburg-Bayreuth) are engraved. In the upper floor are several rooms with vaulted ceilings. The northwestern part contains a chapter hall with carved border decorations made of stucco, as is also found in the eastern suite of rooms. The ceiling of the northern room is covered with stucco floral decorations. A basket-arched window connects the open alcoves with the room. On the façade of the south wing the words “REPARIRT ANNO 1684" (repaired in 1684) are seen, and under the western part is a barrel vaulted cellar. The east part has a mansard roof; the south wing has a hip roof. Throughout the entire house there are crossbeams and barrel arches. The outer walls served partly as the city wall.
