Building Number 13 in the printed brochure
Historic Buildings in Münchberg".

The sign is on the north side (Kulmbacher Straße).

The horseback post, the first postal connection between Nürnberg and Leipzig in 1683 led over the Große Heerstraße (Great Army Street) through Münchberg. On September 28, 1686 they covered 255 kilometers in 67 hours, which meant a great strain for the horses. Postilions and post stations were posted along the route for the care of the animals and provisions for the riders. In Münchberg the stopping point was in the Hotel Schwarze Adler (Hotel Black Eagle) and the innkeeper was the postmaster. The stables were in the courtyard.

Directly underneath is the timber-framed house, which is credited with being the oldest building in Münchberg, and earlier was a blacksmith shop for the post house.

Hotel Black EagleSince July 23, 1693 the stagecoaches arrived four times per week. From Dresden the coaches reached Münchberg Friday and Monday respectively, at 5:00 a.m. and the one from Nürnberg on Wednesday and Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Around the year 1699 there were two connections by one post rider and after 1745 a shuttle from Pressath – Kemnath – Wunsiedel – Frankenhammer.

The building became two storied in the second half of the 18th century with gables and a hip roof and in 1954 it was raised.
A black metal eagle in a gold frame (photo right) over the entry on Bahnhofstraße originated from an earlier building, around 1777.

The present day street front of the building Bahnhofstraße has nine windows on three stories. On the ground floor a flower shop and the Frankenpost/Blickpunkt business have been housed since 2014. On the ground floor on the south side are rounded arched windows. The street front on Kulmbacher Straße was significantly changed by an addition in the mid 20th century. The original construction had four windows. On the southern façade the building presents six windows on the first and second floors and four windows on the third floor.
